Have you ever wondered how much it costs to have a catered food truck event, or have other questions about how food truck catering works? We’ve gotten a lot of questions about how our food truck works over the years, and so we’re answering the most common ones all in one place!
1. How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Food Truck?
The answer varies of course! For a catering-only truck like ours, the cost ranges from about $35-$50 per person, depending on factors such as duration of service, menu choices, add-ons like appetizers, and number of guests. We do not add gratuity, or any other service charges. However, we do have a $1000 catering minimum. For more information about our food truck package, click here. Other companies who do retail sales from their trucks sometimes charge based on the number of meals served after the fact. Sometimes you’ll see starting prices range from about $15 to $25 per meal. Overall, the cost of a food truck catering is almost always going to be less than traditional full-service catering.
2. How Long Does It Take to Serve All the Guests from a Food Truck?
It takes us about 30 seconds per person for food truck service. We do not cook to order so it keeps the meal service moving at about the same speed as a buffet meal would move. If you’re considering a food truck for an event where the speed of service is very important, such as a wedding, make sure you find out if the specific truck you’re looking at cooks to order as that can cause long lines can form.
3. Can You Serve Appetizers as Well as Meals from the Food Truck?
We can serve appetizers from our food truck, either directly from the service window, or as passed appetizers throughout your cocktail hour space.
4. How Many People Can You Serve from the Food Truck?
We can comfortably serve up 175 guests from our truck in a timely manner. For drop-in style events, we can serve larger crowds.
5. Is there a Minimum Guest Count?
Our food truck is the best fit for guest counts of 50 or more. We have served events with smaller guest counts, but we do have a minimum order of $1000.
6. Is the Food Truck Loud?
Food truck generators can sometimes be loud. We have our generators behind closed doors with vents, however there is still some sound. We often do not need to run our generators until service begins, so we can typically keep them off during things like ceremonies. We always do a site visit for events and find out where the food truck placement will be. We can make food truck placement recommendations based on any noise concerns.
7. Where Can a Food Truck Park?
We can park our food truck on any hard surface or even on grass as long as the ground isn’t soft, saturated, or muddy. We have successfully parked the truck in many house driveways, on streets, by barns, and on venue patios.
8. What Happens if it Rains?
We always discuss rain plans with all our clients! We recommend trying to have us park as close to the covered or indoor rain option as possible. We can bring a small canopy-style tent along to bridge gaps between our truck and covered areas, or to simply provide cover immediately outside the truck.
