Catering Manager Job description

Upohar is seeking an experienced and dynamic Catering Manager to plan and lead on-site execution of catering events, such as weddings, corporate events and fundraising galas.

The Catering Manager is responsible for organizing and overseeing all aspects of food and beverage services at events, including menu finalization, staff scheduling, and client communication. The catering manager coordinates all the details and logistics to deliver a smooth and successful event experience that is consistent with Upohar’s brand promise.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Client interaction: Understand clients’ needs, finalize food order and service details, create customized event checklist.
  • Event logistics: Coordinate all aspects of event setup including table arrangements, serving stations and equipment, place-settings and table linen.
  • Staff management: Supervise catering staff during the event.
  • Food safety & hygiene: Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations, maintaining proper sanitation standards in service areas.
  • Quality control: Monitor food quality throughout the event, ensuring dishes are presented according to standards.
  • Event execution: Oversee the smooth running of events, addressing any issues that may arise during service.
  • Post-event tasks: Review feedback, and conduct post-event analysis to identify areas for improvement.

What we are looking for in the right candidate: 

  • Customer service focus: able to prioritize client satisfaction and address any concerns promptly.
  • Strong communication skills: able to effectively communicate with clients, staff, and vendors to make sure all details are understood and executed properly.
  • Organizational skills: able to manage multiple events simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership abilities: able to motivate and manage a team to achieve high standards of service.
  • Food knowledge: curious about different cuisines and food traditions of the world, their preparation, presentation, and dietary rules.
  • Comfortable with technology: able to master the use of tools such as Google Workspace and other catering-related apps.

Requirements: 

  • Weekend and evening availability required
  • Valid driver’s license, and clean driving record
  • Able to learn to drive a large truck – similar to a FedEx truck
  • Experience as a catering manager or event coordinator preferred.
  • ServSafe certified (or can become certified)
  • Access to a computer for online meetings and remote work
  • Able to lift and carry catering equipment and heavy containers of food and beverage
  • Able to stay on feet for long periods of time
  • Background check (clear of charges or activity related to alcohol, or crimes involving minors)
